The LSPCA is currently building upon rehabilitation for animals rescued from abusive and neglected pasts. These animals are being trained on behavior and attitude to make them eligible for new homes. At the moment we have a few small enclosures for the dogs that are available for adoption. These enclosures consist of mesh wire secured to pieces of timber, and the kennels are still under construction. Because of this, the entries into the enclosure are not as secure as they should be, and are temporary and flimsy.
This is not comforting, as the dogs may escape and therefore loose the chance to be rehabilitated into a proper loving home. The LSPCA lacks of materials and man power to complete and better the condition of the kennels in order to bring the animals more comfort. The kennels basically are little structures built out of bricks with aluminum roofs; each is about two meters wide with three walls and an open front, each housing 2-3 dogs. The ground around the kennels is dirt, and with the rainy season upon us our animals often get sprayed by rain and mud due to gusts of wind, which is a general discomfort for them.
Concrete floors are desperately needed, among other things. These include proper drainage, because the system installed at the moment requires a retouch. Going along with the water theme- water points need to be put in.
Our appeal to supporters is thus: that the LSPCA really does need assistance with finalizing the construction of the kennels in the enclosures, and comfort items for the dogs are highly required and much needed. Simple things such as squeaky toys, blankets, and doggy treats will improve the quality of the lives of the dogs that live here, and make for much difference in their daily routine. As it is, the dogs have no toys or treats, and rarely get to leave the enclosures for walks or exercise due to lack of staff. All of these necessary improvements are estimated to a cost of around $3,000. The existing infrastructure was installed with $2000 with the kind supportAnimal Kind International that contributed $350.
If anyone would like to make a donation, assist in fundraising, or volunteer at the LSPCA to help promote and secure domestic animal welfare, please get in contact with us on this website immediately.
