Chief Sewera from Mpingu village in Lilongwe has started imposing penalties to his subjects when found neglecting and abusing donkeys or any other animal in his jurisdiction.
A donkey owner from chief Sewera’s village was charged a penalty of Mk50,000 for failing to take care of his donkey. Despite the donkey owner being warned several times, his donkey had been roaming around the village vandalizing property and injuring other donkeys.
One of the victims is a young donkey which was trampled and bitten on its right front leg. The little one could not be spared the infection and seriousness of the injury it sustained.
LSPCA team with support from our partner organisations; Donkey Sanctuary and Animal Aid Abroad respond to such cases and are willing to help with a free service should chiefs implement a local by-law that punishes those who perform or allow cruel acts against animals.
