LSPCA participates in the 4th Lilongwe District Agriculture Fair

Animal lives matter. As Lilongwe Society for the Protection and Care of Animals (LSPCA), it is our wish to see animals living better lives and their contribution to humankind being fully understood.

Recently our team participated in the fourth Lilongwe district agriculture fair which took place at Bunda college Campus in Lilongwe from 25-26 July 2019. The agriculture fair organized by the Lilongwe District Agriculture Fair (DAECC) was celebrated under the theme: Quality agriculture produce and organized marketing; key to sustainable food, income and nutrition security.

Our team had a chance to meet with valued farmers and explained to them about LSPCA’s wonderful work in promoting animal health, animal welfare, and supporting livelihoods with special focus on the role of donkeys in farming households. Using donkeys to plough fields, and transporting goods, farmers were convinced that impoverished households can achieve food security and earn a living from donkeys.

A healthier donkey lives longs and benefit its owner. At the fair, LSPCA team demonstrated a model donkey cart (the first of its kind in Malawi), and correct ways of harnessing a donkey to a cart and a plough. These technologies when adopted and used well can benefit donkey owners, at the same time lessening donkey sufferings.

LSPCA through its Donkey Sanctuary Project aims at transforming the quality life of donkeys and people in Malawi through greater understanding, collaboration and support, and also promoting lasting, mutually life-enhancing relationships.
