LSPCA Officers

The LSPCA relies on its officers to help the Adoption Officer with the fostering and adoption schemes for rescued. You want to help the LSPCA but don’t know how? Then become an officer for your local area. Becoming an Officer for the LSPCA gives you a chance to get involved and help out. We need officers in the different areas around Lilongwe.

Basic duties of an LSPCA officer include (you can choose which you would like to assist in. We understand that not everybody can handle a cruelty case for example):

  1. Vetting potential foster parents
  2. Give additional support to the Adoption Officer by checking on the suitability of new foster carers. This will involve visiting the foster carer’s home and ensuring they understand the responsibilities of being a foster carer and have suitable premises, time and resources to offer foster care.

  3. Checking out potential families for adoption
  4. Again visit potential adopter’s homes and check their suitability to adopt their chosen animal. This will involve visiting the potential adopter’s home and ensuring they understand the responsibilities of rehoming an animal and have suitable premises, time and resources to care for their chosen animal. Answer any questions they might have and offer advice.

  5. Making six monthly check-ups on LSPCA animals that have previously been adopted. Check their general condition, the condition of their surroundings and if they have the correct enrichment, like a bed, toys etc. and report back to the Adoption Officer.
  6. To rescue or collect animals and work with the LSPCA Administrator to arrange foster care.
  7. To investigate reports of alleged animal cruelty or neglect, conduct an assessment of the animal involved and report back to the LSPCA Administrator who will decide if further action is necessary.
