Lilongwe Veterinary Clinic

The LSPCA has opened a not for profit veterinary clinic in Lilongwe. Since her inception in 2008, this is by far the most exciting and ambitious undertaking for the Trust. This is indeed exciting for the staff and trustees because if successful, will mark the beginning of LSPCA establishing herself fully in the country. Whereas the undertaking is charitable, competitive charges will be applicable to paying clients in order to sustain a free or subsidized service to the unprivileged people.

So far this has been a huge success in Lilongwe and the community has been supportive in the establishing of the clinic. Friends have donated most of the present furnishings as well as kitted out the veterinary manager’s quarters.

In this same spirit Burco/Broadband offered free wireless internet at the premises, while Cold chain Ltd (suppliers of Pedigree and Whiskers) sponsored the veterinary certificates as well as the sign posts.

The Trust approved the position of a Veterinary Manager to run the Clinic and support the Community Veterinary undertakings too. We believe that the clinic will greatly improve the veterinary service in Lilongwe and ultimately the animals will be in a better place.

In a bid to establish a decent veterinary facility, a Clinic in the Box campaign was mooted with the dependable support of the RSPCA International to seek for in kind and financial support for the initial set up of the clinic. The idea was to fill a 20 ft container with equipment and supplies for the clinic. This is in very advanced stages and we shall not be the same after!

Other unforeseen benefits so far have been the increased visibility of the LSPCA; this has led to increased adoptions, consultations, reports, rescues, donations and all the other pertinent benefits.

Volunteers are required to help maintain ad fully set up the clinic, caring for inpatients, record keeping and assisting the resident vet in surgery and general day to day running of the clinic. Vet/ vet nurse students and qualified vets and nurses are especially more than welcome and valued!
