Honourable Deputy Minister of Agriculture Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima MP on Wednesday officially launched the new LSPCA state-of-the-art veterinary hospital and animal shelter in Lilongwe.
The new veterinary hospital and animal shelter is LSPCA’s commitment to ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare and care in the country.
Built with financial support from the RSPCA UK, the new hospital, shelter, and offices will further help to support the Government and other stakeholders’ efforts in raising animal health and welfare standards in Malawi.
In her remarks, the guest of honour- honourable Deputy Minister Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima MP, emphasized her gratefulness to the LSPCA’s efforts in collaborating with the government and various stakeholders to improve animal health, welfare, and livestock agriculture in the country. “It is through the collaboration between the government and the private sector that agriculture development agenda will be achieved,” said the deputy minister.
The LSPCA is the oldest and largest animal welfare organization in Malawi and strives to develop compassion and empathy for all animals in Malawi. The LSPCA operates a 24-hour on-site veterinary hospital, a mobile clinic, and offers emergency service; works closely with the Malawi Police Services to end animal cruelty on the streets; runs continuous rabies vaccination campaigns; improves donkey’s lives in Lilongwe, Dedza, and Dowa; trains veterinary college students, and supports legislation and enforcement of the Animal Protection Act.
