I decided to come to LSPCA because I wanted to contribute my professional skills to a country where animal welfare is poor but at the same time be able to travel and experience a new culture. My favorite part of the placement at LSPCA was the field work because it is such a unique style of providing veterinary care which I can’t experience back home, and it always gave me a great sense of achievement at the end of each day.
Although a “basic chore” list would have been great to refer to during the quiet moments, I felt appreciated by everyone; the community and LSPCA staff alike. The volunteer experience was quite unique to this place and even the LSPCA shelter was a great experience; the animals at LSPCA are well taken care of, they have nice kennels that are kept clean, the availability to run outside every day, they get behavior/training attention which is crucial for a chance for them to be adopted.
I will, of course, miss all of this, but mainly the sun and Dr. Madeline; she was a lovely person to work with!
