Our volunteer program is a fantastic volunteer opportunity to work with farm animals and our shelter rescued animals. Get a real African experience in the beautiful country of Malawi whilst helping to improve animal welfare. During off times you will enjoy the ‘Lake of Stars’ and our beautiful mountains.

Volunteers are crucial to our organization, helping to ensure that we have the people, skills and resources to continue improving the lives of people and animals in Malawi. This program lets you share knowledge and skills across cultures and wherever possible, we will match you to the correct department and project(s). During our volunteer programs, you stay with a team of volunteers in our purposely build brand new premises and your off days will be filled with fun trips to the lake or mountains or a chilled afternoon of live music where you will make new friends forever.

The main activities during the program are;

1. Rehoming Shelter

 Rehoming program 4

Our rehoming shelter includes quarantine kennels, rehoming kennels and a cattery. We continually strive to be a leading example in how to care for domestic animals with a daily routine where cleanliness, canine training and feline enrichment are paramount. We promote an ‘adopt don’t shop’ message to the public, providing healthy, vaccinated animals to caring forever homes. We rely on volunteers to take our dogs for walks and to train them, to groom our cats, handle our kittens, bottle feed puppies and to generally give all of our shelter animals some well-deserved love.

2. Humane Education

edu edson

Our national humane welfare project aims to teach children and adults attitudes of care, respect and responsibility towards their fellow human beings, animals, and their environment in line with the global One Health, One Welfare approach. Volunteers assist in planning and delivering lessons to school children of ages 9 to 13 years, using interactive teaching techniques. The lessons are always lots of fun and the children always inspire us with their poems, artwork, role-plays and songs about caring for animals. We also work with multi-faith-based leaders who we educate on animal kindness, in turn they bring this message to their congregation and tie the message to stories in the Bible and Quran.

3. Rescues

rescued

Every year we care for hundreds of animals rescued from roadside trade. Animals sold on the roadsides are usually worm infested, sick and behaviour troubled. These animals need a second chance in life where they are well taken care of and loved. This program gives an opportunity to international volunteers to care for these abused and traumatized rescued animals. You wil be involved in taking care of and providing treatment for these rescued animals.
